Awards

Please find the list of the awards won by the organisation and by our members for their excellent contributions to the society. We are proud to see our members winning prestigious awards across the globe. They stand as examples to us and their passion towards the sociaetal development inspires each one of us in our daily life and provides a great motivation to all of our volunteers.

1. Krishna Hasa  

Award: Mantra-CEL Leadership Award for the year 2007.

Nature of Award

Mantra Award is given by Mantra LLC for excellence in leadership, entrepreneurship and social leadership. Hasa has recieved this award in social leadership category.  

Achievements 

Krishna Hasa, Nirmaan’s social leader has won the prestigious Mantra-CEL Leadership Award for the year 2007. Hasa started as a volunteer of "Rural Development Unit" of MyINDIA (a student movement at BITS Pilani) since its inception in March 2005. Her frequent visits to nearby villages have exposed to the bare and ugly realities of rural India. With a small group of ten students, she played a major role in nurturing NIRMAAN as a vibrant platform for social service in BITS-Pilani and elsewhere. She established "Rural Employment Incubator" which designs business models for livelihood generation. During the summer of 2006 & 2007, she spread the concept of NIRMAAN (registered as NPO – non profit organization in July 2007) in Andhra Pradesh. She also established a collaboration with "Byrraju foundation" with a workshop on "Sharing of best practices" to reinforce the work efficiency. As Vice President, she has been successful in initiating new ideas like School Adoption Program, Spoken English classes, and a major project on Solar Lamps.

Hasa has worked as the President of Pilani till May, 2008 and along with her Vice President Praveen, she has played a key role in bringing out the results for beneficiaries in the villages nearby Pilani. At present, she is working for Bangalore chapter.


2. Srikumar Murthy G

 

Award: Goldman Sachs Global Leader 2008 

 

Nature of Award

 

The Goldman Sachs Global Leaders Program identifies exceptional, second-year college students from all over the world and provides them with training that will enhance their leadership abilities. He is one amongst the top 75 students selected from 23 countries and close to 100 top universities and colleges. He was awarded US$3,000, and given the title of "Goldman Sachs Global Leader" in the Regional Recognition Ceremony held at Mumbai. He cleared the regional round in Mumbai to represent India in New York at the Global Leadership Institute where a weeklong training in Leadership was given to the 75 selected students from all over the world.

Achievements 

Srikumar, Nirmaan's social leader and our President at Pilani is pursuing his third year of B.E(Hons.) Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the world renowned university, BITS-Pilani. Currently, he stands in the top five academic achievers of his institute and has been a topper even at his 10th and 12th boards.  He has won many national level Olympiads in Science and Mathematics and is the recipient of the prestigious A.R.A memorial trophy for the outstanding student in academics and extracurricular activities. He has been named as the Goldman Sachs Global leader for the year 2008 along with 150 students throughout the world. He has worked for popular NGOs like CMCA(Children’s Movement for Civic Awareness), Janagraha (at school level) where he, as a President of his school’s wing, played a pivotal role in spreading civic awareness in issues like solid waste management, rain water harvesting, tree plantation and so on. He has also worked on issues like bring awareness about AIDS, raising funds for orphanages, and inducting street children to school. 

In Nirmaan, he has worked as the Project Coordinator of a project called “Self Help Groups” he helps imparting rural women skills like stitching, handicrafts and then helps them in getting a market to their products, thus generates employment. Now, he is leading Nirmaan at Pilani as the President. Srikumar plans to pursue an M.S in the field of networks or communication soon after engineering and later plans to opt for a research career. He is an amateur robotics enthusiast, is passionate about programming and is very good at oration and creative writing.
